At LMC we have an outreach focus to the C-4 (Campus,
Community, Country & Continents). We
are located directly across the street from the UWRF Campus, which puts us in a
great position to have a UWRF campus outreach ministry.
Campus Kickoff party: On
the first week of classes in the fall, we host a giant “Campus Kickoff Party”
at LMC. We have a free food truck, lawn
games, gift card giveaway, homemade desserts, and lots of discussions. This is a way to introduce UWRF students to
LMC by inviting them to hang out with us.
We have had students very interested in why we do this without asking
anything in return, and we are able to share with them that’s how Jesus loves
us.
Monthly Meals: We
have been hosting a FREE monthly meal for college students for many years, but
in the last few years it has grown! We
went from serving around 30 students to about 125 students each month. We also host a “Finals Feeding Frenzy” where
we host 3 meals during finals week. These
are also very well attended and help the students to feel supported.
BINGO Night: LMC hosts monthly
BINGO nights for UWRF students with trivia and gift card giveaways. These nights seem to attract a different
crowd than many other outreach events we have at LMC and allows us to joke
around and get to know some of the students better.
College Bible Study: We
have 2 college Bible Studies that we host at LMC. We have a student-led study on Sunday nights
that is tailored to UWRF students who are interested in growing in their faith. We also host a staff-led college Bible study
on Thursday nights which acts more like a missional community and mentorship
program. Both of these options have a
component of discussion and digging into what the Bible says about relevant topics. Our focus isn’t just head knowledge but practical
application with action steps.
Falcon Links Connection: UWRF
has a program called Falcon Links which serves students who have experienced
homelessness or been a part of the foster care system. Many of these students do not have parental
or financial support from a family. We
have partnered with them to host a Thanksgiving dinner, we provide freezer
meals for them to stop by and pick up if they need a meal, we have a “Prayer
Warrior” program where we assign a student number to a congregation member who
is praying for that specific student, and we “adopt a student” for Christmas
and Easter gift bags.
YOUTHerans & Youngish Adults Group Connection: Several of our college students help to give
back to the LMC family by babysitting for our Youngish Adult Group and by
mentoring the High School students during our YOUTHerans (LMC Youth Group)
Meetings. This helps them to cultivate a
spirit of serving others, while also growing in how they model walking life with
Jeus to kids from the very young to teens.
Costa Rica Mission Trip: For
the last several years, we have had college students join us on our annual
Costa Rica Mission Trip. This is a great
opportunity to get outside of their comfort zone and spend the week serving
alongside other members of LMC. We have
seen real heart changes during this week for students who haven’t experienced
anything like this before. They get to
see first-hand how God provides for His people and they get to participate in
that, grow in prayer life, and cultivate strong relationships.
